SYNOPSIS

In the rundown rental house on the outskirts of town, nine-year-old Gina not only takes care of her little brothers, but also her pregnant mother Gitte. She finally wants to make a real father figure out of Gitte’s on-again, off-again boyfriend and wants to turn Gitte’s mother into a loving grandma. Gina fights against hopelessness, neglect, and the child welfare office, for the baby in Gitte’s belly and for herself.

A female three-generation drama told through the eyes of a child who refuses to let fate dictate her future.

After the global success of her film “What We Wanted,” Ulrike Kofler once again brings in her observation of a sensitive topic to tell us precisely and sensitively about a challenging family constellation through the eyes of nine-year-old “Gina.” Emma Lotta Simmer inspires us in her portrayal of this girl who draws strength from a seemingly hopeless family situation and faces life with hope. With Marie-Luise Stockinger, Gerti Drassl and Ursula Strauss, Ulrike Kofler was able to recruit three of Austria's most important actresses to confront us with a world that seems far away from us, but is still so close to our daily social reality.
